Writing

Every opportunity is taken to integrate writing with our enquiry-based approach to the curriculum.  It is also taught discretely in English sessions, using "Writing Roots" from Literacy Tree.

At Lowe’s Wong Infant School, it is our intent to provide children with an engaging and exciting writing curriculum that deepens their understanding of the writing process and builds stamina, resilience, and love for writing.  We intend every child to leave Lowe’s Wong Infants School as a fluent writer.

Writing Roots is a book-based approach which embeds all the National Curriculum requirements, and places audience and purpose at the core.  Through the "Teach Through a Text" pedagogy, children are motivated to write for a range of audiences and purposes, using high-quality diverse children's literature.  Carefully planned sequences of lessons provide opportunities to explore writing conventions, and skills and outcomes are revisited to practise and consolidate learning.
